Cut the crap. Really.
Training continues to go well, if not a bit difficult. We have been belted with another round of snow and yesterday we were lucky enough to get freezing rain and sleet, which turned everything to a massive sheet of ice.
Needless to say I moved everything indoors today. Had a great cross-training session at the gym.
This weekend we will start to get into some higher mileage. Friend of the blog Maika will be leading the MGH team run on Saturday (possibly Sunday, weather depending). It looks like we will be running 13 miles by tackling the last 6.5 miles of the marathon course backwards out and back. Unlikeliest Team Captain Meghan will be serving as water girl at the turn around point.
The last two weeks I have done my Saturday runs with the Mass General Marathon Team. It has been a wonderful opportunity to meet other people who are devoting themselves to raising money to support pediatric cancer care and research. The dedication shown by some of the people involved is astounding.
As much as I have always wanted to run the Boston Marathon, it is such an incredible honor to be able to do it for such a meaningful cause. I have friends who have fallen victim to cancer at too young of an age, I have family who have as well. To be able to lend my support to such a great cause makes what I am going through so much more worthwhile.
Some mornings (most mornings) the last thing I want to do is get out of bed. Especially given the weather we have been dealing with. But to think about how trivial my suffering is compared to those who are battling cancer helps to put things in perspective.
I want to do this in memory of those who I have lost, I want to do this for those who will be lost. For my friends, for my family, for your friends and family. I want to do this because it is what I would want someone to do for me.
I plan on writing the names of those I am honoring on my team uniform prior to the race. If there is anyone you want remembered or honored please let me know, it would be my pleasure to run for them as well.
